US 301 sign at St. Charles Towne Center
US 301 sign at St. Charles Towne Center Sign for southbound US 301 at St. Charles Towne Center in Waldorf, Maryland. This sign is on the mall property, and uses a circle shield rather than the US highway shield. It is worth noting that the circle shield is not used at all in Maryland, as state routes use a unique square shield.
Octagonal "SLOW" sign
Octagonal "SLOW" sign Very old octagonal "SLOW" sign on Williams Street in Ridgeley, West Virginia. The sign is quite faded, but I assume that its original colors were black text on a yellow background. If this sign were erected today, it would likely be diamond-shaped.
Interstate 83 Business Loop shield
Interstate 83 Business Loop shield Interstate 83 Business Loop shield along South George Street in York, Pennsylvania. Business Interstate 83 in York is the only business Interstate in the northeastern United States.

Unlike regular Interstates, business Interstates use a green shield, and take the form of a loop (touching the parent road at both ends) or a spur (touching the parent road at only one end). These roads, while signed as an Interstate, often are not freeways, and are routed along local roads through town.
